The album “Nhà Nha,” which means “Home Sweet Home” in Vietnamese, aims to unite Vietnam and its diaspora in a communal project.
For the Vietnamese community, what does the concept of “home” represent, what has it symbolized, and what could it evolve into? With this briefing, my task was to create a homepage illustration featuring nostalgic images of the Vietnamese diaspora, ones they can deeply connect with.
My concept revolves around a “memory map,” showcasing an adult woman (the girl in blue jeans) strolling through the paths of Vietnam, reminiscing about all the moments she associates with it. This includes a blend of Western and Vietnamese cuisine, from pizzas, fried chicken, and fried spring rolls to phở bò, drip coffee, the friendly street food vendor, the Paris by night show with her grandmother, and the indispensable fish sauce seasoning in all the dishes. If food reflects a culture, then this fusion of Western and Vietnamese flavors truly mirrors the distinctiveness of a “Việt Kiều” life.
